Palette knife, artist’s assistant

A palette knife is a small spatula (similar to a construction trowel), which the artist uses in his work when writing a picture. The functionality of the palette knife is quite wide, and their variety can plunge you into a stupor when you try to choose it for the first time. Painting with a palette knife cannot be confused with anything else, often such painting is performed pasty, so to speak with “bold” strokes. We cannot talk about any glazing, only large strokes with bright mixtures of paints. With a palette knife, pictures are painted quickly, because in one movement you can cover a large part of the canvas (if you compare it with an artistic brush). An excellent combination of the combined technique of a palette knife and a brush. This method allows you to quickly “deal” with large areas of the same type of canvas: the sky, the sea or a lining under the green grass, and only then add details with a brush. In this way, paintings are often painted in the Alla Prima style.
